How LocalDocu works

Select files, choose an operation, and run locally. Learn how LocalDocu keeps document processing on your device.

LocalDocu is a local-first workspace: you select documents on your device, choose an operation, and run it in the browser. Results are saved or downloaded locally — depending on what your browser supports.

Steps

  1. Select files. Choose PDF, DOC, or DOCX with Select files (multi-select). Folder pick is available when the browser supports it (best on desktop Chrome/Edge). Files stay in your browser session.
  2. Choose an operation. Merge, split, extract pages, delete pages, rotate, reorder, compress, convert Word to PDF, or manage files locally.
  3. Run on your device. Processing happens locally in your browser. Save with a native picker when available, or download the result — nothing is sent to a LocalDocu server for document processing.

Devices at a glance

  • Phones & tablets: Select files → run → download. Core merge, compress, and convert work within memory limits.
  • Desktop Chrome / Edge: Fullest experience — folder pick, native Save As, create folder.
  • Other desktop browsers: Core tools via file pick + download; folder/Save As often limited.

Why local processing can matter

  • Unnecessary file transfers can be avoided for suitable workloads.
  • Suitable document operations can use the computing capacity you already have on your device.
  • You can process documents without maintaining a remote processing session.
  • A future desktop app can provide more resources for larger workloads and host LocalDocu AI.

Preferred framing: use the computing capacity you already have. Suitable document operations can run locally instead of requiring document uploads and remote processing. Local processing can reduce unnecessary data transfer and remote compute for workloads your device can handle — without claiming universal energy efficiency.
